About the event
ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:
Rocks are so much more than just rigid objects, they are us, and we are them. Like humans, they are formed with time, patience, warmth, and they undergo circumstances that could sometimes cause them to crack. But just like humans, the more they break, the more their core starts to show. Holding a rock makes me feel connected to my surrounding, to earth, and its people. I cannot help but think about its past and how far it might have traveled. I want to share this kind of connection with people, and I want to connect people through rocks. I am proposing to conduct a rock carving and painting workshop to honor rocks and our instinct to overlook them. Rocks come in so many different forms, colors, and sizes, and that is the workshop's purpose: to encourage attendees to create art without restrictions, perfection, or thinking of what or how the outcome might be; there is only one of each rock out there. It is a meditative and grounding workshop accompanied by poetry that they can read before, during, and/or after.
